About Pure Joy Movement
My mission at Pure Joy Movement is to make yoga and movement sessions fun, fresh, and accessible to anyone who feels stuck in their imperfect bodies.
I want to help those who lack a connection between their body and mind, self awareness, and those who get bored by going to "regular" yoga classes or doing "regular" workouts.
I aim to remove your tunnel vision and to help you see with new eyes the fascinating ways our bodies can move, and not be afraid.
About Charlotte
My upbringing in Hong Kong was in an artistic household as both my parents were actors, and the only subjects I was interested in at school were P.E. and drama. At college I studied Theatre and Performing Arts, so I knew a lot about movement.
Fast forward to my mid-twenties and I had already travelled to India, going to yoga every morning at 6am. In the UK, I was working in the outdoor education industry as an activity instructor for school camps; leading school groups in activities like surfing and climbing. My job was physical! I started leading informal yoga sessions to my colleagues who were feeling daily aches and pains.
This was the planted seed that would grow on what would become the most impactful journey in my life.
A few years later, in 2021, I completed my 200hr Yoga Teacher Training, ready to share the light.
Kitesurfing, yoga, and desk work
In 2022 I opened a Kitesurf school with my partner, while teaching yoga twice a week. I was doing all the admin - from my desk at home! For the first time in my life, I had a desk job.
A couple of years on and I've realised that because I was managing my own hours and prioritising the kitesurf business, I lost balance in terms of my physical practice. I wasn't getting enough exercise, and in between planning and teaching yoga classes I struggled to schedule in yoga for myself. All in all, I wasn't moving enough. I experienced chronic pain in my back and neck, and I couldn't recover as quickly after exercise.
Now...
I am on my own path to reignite my joy for movement and I'm so excited to be revamping my whole concept and bring you new offerings! 2025 is the birth year of Pure Joy Movement!
I took an additional course on Yoga Anatomy in 2023, and have just completed a further 300 hour Yoga Teacher certification in Rishikesh, India, in March 2025. Having seen rewarding transformations in my students throughout my journey, I'm ready to take my teaching to the next level!
My body isn't perfect, but I'm ready to shake up the 'rules' and conformation of classical yoga, boring workout exercises, and mix up all the ways that our bodies were made to move by cultivating joy and vitality.
